Norbert Becker
(Atoz)
Norbert Becker held various senior executive positions in Andersen Worldwide and Ernst & Young Global. He was the founding partner of Andersen in Luxembourg, became Area Managing Partner for Central Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, India and the Middle East. He relocated to London and New York to assume responsibility for the global infrastructure at Andersen and was appointed Global Chief Financial Officer of Ernst & Young when Andersen combined their operations with EY. Norbert has extensive global business experience, and has advised many large groups on complex business issues involving financing, outsourcing, and taxation. Norbert has led many international M&A engagements for the firms he worked for. Norbert serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of CIB Bank Ltd in Budapest, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mangrove Capital Partners, Compagnie de Banque Privée, "CBP" and Atoz Tax Advisors, all in Luxembourg. He is the managing director of Intesa Sanpaolo Holding International S.A. in Luxembourg. He is also one of the managers of Edmond de Rothschild Europportunity Sicar in Luxembourg.
Giuseppe Curatolo
(TLcom)
Giuseppe Curatolo, MBA – brings a wide range of technological and business expertise to the Media Lario Technologies board. Currently, he is a general partner of TLcom Capital Partners, where he focuses on mobile network infrastructure as well as innovative applications of material science to the information technology sector.
During his tenure at DFJ, Curatolo led the firm's European wireless communications effort as well as development of the firm's position in emerging technologies such as nanotechnology, bio-engineering and innovative applications of material sciences.
Previously, he was a vice president at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Private Equity, where since 1998 he focused on European early-stage technology investments. Prior to Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Curatolo was a growth-strategy consultant in the San Francisco office of Bain and Co.
Curatolo majored in business administration at the Bocconi University of Milan and holds an MBA degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Knut Heitmann
(PolyTechnos)
Knut Heitmann – a venture capitalist and inventor, is a founding partner of PolyTechnos. He was a managing director of Freiberger Compound Materials, the world’s second largest producer of Gallium Arsenide wafers. Heitmann was the director of the technology monitoring division at Daimler Benz, where he was also responsible for corporate venture investments in the Middle East, Asia and the former U.S.S.R. Heitmann held a variety of posts at Ernst Leitz, the world leader in precision optics, including managing director. He ran R&D and Defense for the Swiss-German Wild-Leitz Group.
Along with his position on the Media Lario Technologies board, Heitmann is a board member of a number of venture capital groups and technology companies.
Heitmann is an inventor of 44 U.S. and internationally registered patents and is a member of the Jury of the German Innovation Prize and the Queen’s Prize of Higher & Further Education in the U.K. He is also a member of the board of Futur, a Swiss trust supporting Swiss start-up companies.
Heitmann received his degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt.
Pierangelo Martinotti
(former STMicroelectronics Executive)
Piero Martinotti, born in Vercelli (Italy), has got his Master in Electronic Engineering at the "Politecnico" of Turin; he is married with three children and three grand-children.
Piero began his working career at SGS as Application and Marketing Engineer. In 1968, he moved to Motorola Semiconductors with the responsibility of Strategic Marketing for Europe and in 1975, he became Marketing & Sales Director for Europe. He held this position until 1979, when he left Motorola to join Weber Carburatori, a company belonging to the Fiat Group, as Managing Director. In March 1981, he was back to the semiconductor world and to SGS to take the responsibility of the growing MOS Division which he kept till October 1985, when he became Corporate Director for Technology and Strategy.
In April 1986, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in Innovative Silicon Technology, the ASIC company belonging to the SGS Group, a position he kept through the creation of the SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics, the international semiconductor Group born in 1987 as a result of the merger of Thomson Semiconducteurs and SGS Microelettronica.
In November 1990, Piero Martinotti was called back to the Corporation, to take charge of Corporate Strategic Planning of SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics, which changed its name to STMicroelectronics in May 1998. In this position, he was at the heart of the growth of the Group till it posted a symbolic net profit in 1992 first, and then a substantial one in 1993.
In April 1994, Piero Martinotti was appointed General Manager of the New Ventures Group, a unit created to identify, evaluate and incubate new opportunities to lead ST into new business segments. Inter alia conceived and launched the ST Design Centers in India and Czech Republic and, before retiring from ST, planned and guided the spin-off of an ST internal Biometric unit, into UPEK, a fabless corporation of USA, in the Biometric Fingerprint Recognition System arena.
Piero is currently an independent Hi-Tech business advisor as well as a board member in several companies.
Since the early 70's, Piero, in parallel to his professional duties, has been engaged in several humanitarian projects, which has lead him to Board seats at CIAI (Centro Italiano Aiuto all'Infanzia) of Italy, and more recently at the Pistorio Foundatin of Switzerland.
Giovanni Nocerino
President & Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Giovanni Nocerino has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Media Lario Technologies since January 2004. He brings to the company more than 25 years of experience gained in management and key executive roles in the Semiconductor device and Equipment industries.
Giovanni Nocerino started his Semiconductor career with ST, in the late 1970’s, where his responsibilities ranged from Process Engineering to Fab. Management. He moved into Semiconductor Equipment Business in the early 1980’s by joining Varian Associates where he ran Varian Semiconductor Equipment business Europe and then moved to the US where he became Vice President and General Manager of Varian’s Semiconductor Equipment Business. He was responsible for Worldwide Sales and Marketing and oversaw a substantial growth during his tenure. To enhance and broaden his business experience, Dr. Nocerino moved from a large sized Company to a Start-Up by joining CVC Inc., where he was Executive Vice President of CVC Inc. responsible for their Field Operation, Marketing and the launch of new products. He was part of the team that made the Company public. After CVC was acquired by VEECO, Giovanni joined SpeedFam-Ipec as part of a newly formed management team to help the Company regain a stronger market share in CMP. He served as Executive Vice President, responsible for their Worldwide Field Operation and Marketing until SpeedFam- Ipec was acquired by Novellus. Post SpeedFam- Ipec, he joined the new Thermawave Management team for a brief period prior to moving into his current role of President and CEO of Media Lario Technologies.
Giovanni Nocerino holds a PhD in Solid State Electronics from Manchester University and a Joint Honours degree in Physics and Electronic Engineering from the same University.
Warren Packard
(DFJ, MLT BoD Chairman)
Warren Packard, MBA – an investment specialist, Warren Packard is a managing director at Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Aside from his position on the Media Lario Technologies board of directors, Packard also currently serves on the boards of 422 Inc., Anagran, BinOptics, Eoplex, Imago Scientific Instruments, Ooma and Xfire. Packard led the DFJ’s investments in Hypernex, Microfabrica, Primet Precision Materials, Chilisoft (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Digital Impact (NASDAQ:DIGI), Direct Hit Technologies (acquired by Ask Jeeves), Enviz (acquired by Keynote Systems), Fogdog Sports (acquired by Global Sports), and NetMind (acquired by Puma Technology).
Prior to joining DFJ, Packard co-founded Angara Database Systems, a main-memory relational database company. Prior to Angara, he was an associate at Institutional Venture Partners, investing in early-stage technology companies. Before IVP, Packard was a senior principal engineer in the New Business and Advanced Product Development Group at Baxter International, leading professionals from product development, marketing, and manufacturing in the design and manufacture of next-generation kidney dialysis machines.
During his tenure at Baxter, Packard was granted domestic and international patents designs of silicon-based micro-electromechanical systems. A graduate of Stanford University, Packard holds a BS and MS in mechanical engineering: smart product design. He earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
Tetsuo Tsuneishi
(TEL)
Tetsuo (Tom) Tsuneishi has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the Board of Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) in June of 2003. He has been employed at TEL for over 29 years, serving in a variety of senior management positions, including General Manager of Overseas Operations and the SPE Division, Director and Senior Managing Director as well as Executive Vice President of the company.
Prior to joining TEL, Tsuneishi graduated from Osaka University’s Department of Communications Engineering.
Arnoldo Valenzuela
(MLT)
Arnoldo Valenzuela Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer—has served in this capacity at Media Lario Technologies since January 2004. From 1999 until 2003 he was president and CEO; and from 1995 to 1998, Dr. Valenzuela served as the Company’s managing director. Prior to joining Media Lario Technologies, Dr. Valenzuela was director of scientific programs and responsible for business development and marketing strategy at Kayser-Threde GmbH, a German provider of complete space systems from launch to recovery.
Also in Germany, from 1971 through 1994, Valenzuela was senior scientist and leading investigator at the Max Planck Institut (MPE).
From 1986 until 1988, Valenzuela was president of the Argentine National Commission for Space Research. A board member of Argentina ’s National Commission for Space Research, Valenzuela was the Argentine representative to the Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space within the United Nations’ General Assembly.
Internationally recognized for scientific achievement, Valenzuela has garnered awards from the International Academy of Astronautics (2), NASA (2), and European Space Agency (1). He has three international patent applications and is an active member of the International Academy of Astronautics, Academy of Space Sciences: Argentina, and many professional scientific organizations.
In addition to his current responsibilities at Media Lario Technologies, Valenzuela serves as chairman of both the Commission IV and the Committee on Small Satellite Missions for the International Academy of Astronautics.
Valenzuela holds a Ph.D. in physics and a M.S. in physics from the National University of Cuyo, Argentina. He received a B.Sc. in electronics from the University of Córdoba, Argentina.
