Technology

Media Lario Technologies derives its unique technological expertise from almost 10 years of success in space science, leading to the Company’s proprietary core technologies, namely:

  • The high-precision electroforming process
  • The advanced coating techniques through Physical Vapor Deposition ("PVD")

The Science of Electroforming

The high-precision electroforming process allows the reproduction of a series of highly accurate metallic components by precisely copying the surface of a master which is produced only once by standard machining techniques and can thereafter are used for a high number of replications.

Initially developed for the production of X-ray mirrors for space applications, our replication technology enables to meet the highest demands for ultra smooth surface roughness (<0.4 nm), optical performances and desired surface thickness ranging from a highly flexible film (10 µm) to a self supporting component of several millimeters. We are also capable of providing an high diversity of shapes and sizes including diverse surface structure. As a further advantage, the replication technology offers a cost effective method for high volume production.

The Coating Technology

With the establishment of a new center of excellence in reflective layer deposition in Padova, we have also considerably strengthened our expertise in coating techniques that include an advanced Physical Vapor Deposition ("PVD") process tailored to the production of specifically nanometer periodicity single and multilayers coatings. We achieved advancements in coatings techniques thanks to a continuous scientific and technological know-how exchange with renowned research laboratories (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro), European research facilities (Elettra Synchrotron), and universities (Physics department of the University of Padova).
